In February 2016, the Kong: Skull Island crew searched these mountains for somewhere that looked like an island no one had ever reached. They stopped here.
Villagers still remember being paid to keep their buffalo penned during the shoot.
The lake was dammed by the cooperative in the 1960s. The water is clear and still most of the year, and every peak is mirrored on it.
Come at dawn, when mist hangs at the foot of the cliffs, or at sunset.
In February 2016 the Kong: Skull Island crew searched these mountains for somewhere that looked like an island no one had ever reached. They stopped at Yên Phú, built a set on the flat ground by the water and filmed the scientists fighting off monsters. Villagers still remember being paid to keep their buffalo penned during the shoot.
Locals call it Hói Roóc. It began as a stream flowing from the foot of the cliffs; in the 1960s the Yên Phú cooperative dammed it into a lake. The water is clear and still most of the year, and every peak is mirrored on it.
Come at dawn, when mist hangs at the foot of the cliffs, or at sunset. The shore is open grassland with grazing buffalo, no shops and no fences. Many visitors pitch a tent just to see both moments.
