No border-area permit needed

Legal basis: Decision No. 2244/QĐ-UBND dated 12 June 2026 of the Quảng Trị Provincial People's Committee, recognising the Kim Phú Tourism Area in Kim Phú commune as a provincial-level tourism area. Boundaries as shown on the map attached to the Decision; effective from the date of signing. Signed by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoàng Xuân Tân.

According to the Kim Phú Commune People's Committee, visitors inside the tourism area do not need a border-area permit and no longer pay the former US$10 fee. Some older articles and blogs still say a permit is required; this page supersedes them.

Over the Đá Đẽo pass. Oxalis picks up tour guests at Phong Nha hotels at 7:00.

Daily direct flights from Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City.

Day trip from Phong Nha

Oxalis Tú Làn 1-day tour: hotel pickup in Phong Nha at 7:00, about 70 km.
Or a Rục Mòn cave expedition with Greenland Adventures, 1–2 days, from US$74 per person. Ask them about pickup when you book.
Or hire a car: about 600,000–700,000 VND (~US$24–28) per car one way. Ask us on WhatsApp, book through a ride-hailing app, or call a local taxi in Phong Nha.

Practical

There is no public bus to Kim Phú.
Search Google Maps for “Tu Lan Lodge” or “Cổng Làng du lịch Tân Hóa”. Older articles call the area Minh Hóa, Quảng Bình; it is now Kim Phú commune, Quảng Trị province.
Fill up with fuel before leaving the commune centre. Phone signal is weak in the caves and some valleys.

Visas: citizens of the UK, Germany, France and several other European countries currently get 45 days visa-free; others apply for an e-visa at evisa.gov.vn. Check the official portal before you travel.
